The latest League of Legends patch was released Tuesday, bringing a bunch of changes to champions, kicking off the 2017 competitive season and teasing some upcoming winter skins.

The patch notes for the 6.24 update was released Tuesday, listing all of the changes and explaining the reasons behind them, from visual tweaks to minor ability calibrations to jungle fixes -- all of which work toward fulfilling Riot's 2017 preseason plans.

Most of the updates were implemented into the game Tuesday, but some new features -- like the champion Camille and winter skins -- are still to come.

Winter skins for this year's Snowdown include Santa Braum (above), Snow Day Graves and Winter Wonder Karma.

Snowdown is a seasonal event in the League of Legends universe that brings temporary changes to the game, like a new batch of holiday-themed skins for champions.

As far as actual game updates go, none of the champions listed in the patch notes received major overhauls, but changes did occur. On the buff side of things, Azir, Fiddlesticks, Garen, Katarina, LeBlanc, Varus and Nidalee received a little bit of love. On the nerf side, Ivern, Rengar, Twitch and Vayne were all taken down a notch.

The big item change came to Rylai's Crystal Scepter, which was a far-too-popular item pick for mages. To help increase class variance among mages, the Scepter now gives less ability power, less health and slows units half as much as before. To make up for it, the item costs a bit less.

Plants now act more similarly to wards.

In the new living jungle (read: plants), plants now act more similarly to wards, in that basic attacks don't trigger passive abilities. Along with that, Draven's Spinning Axe and Poppy's passive Iron Ambassador no longer bounce off plants.

The latest addition to masteries -- Courage of the Colossus -- is also being updated. According to Riot, it was working a little too well for players who dive into the fray and use crowd control. Its cooldown has been increased at lower levels and it gives less shield percentage per nearby enemy.

Outside of the main game, spectator mode and the League client have received some updates and fixes to improve user experiences.

Riot has not yet announced when Camille will be added to the game or when Snowdown will commence, but both will debut during patch 6.24.
