Cooking shows like "Masterchef" and the "Great British Bake Off" have been dominating television in the past few years, with record audience and praise from critics.

But what if we apply the same competitive concept to the popular & immortal king of toys, LEGO?

In the new Channel 4 TV show "LEGO Masters", eight pairs of amateur fans from across the UK and Ireland will show off their creativity, construction skills and imaginations "in a battle to be crowned masters of the brick."

Hosted by DJ and TV presenter Melvin Odoom, four hour-long episodes will see the set of amateurs compete against each other in a "wide array of disciplines from the playful to the technical to the unexpected."

Judging is led by LEGO fans and guest judges Richard Osman, Bill Bailey, Dara O Briain and Matthew Ashton, Vice President of Design for the LEGO Group.

The show is not just for kids.

The auditions, which take place in the first episode and features 48 pairs of teams, including 9-year-old friends competing with a pair of adult fans of LEGO (aka AFOLs), cousins, a mum and son, a father and son, an uncle and nephew, Cambridge University engineering students and 12-year-old pals. At the end of the finale, just one pair will be named LEGO Masters.

Executive producer Steph Harris said in a statement: “This playful new format demonstrates that LEGO bricks are more than just a toy – or something to step on – and will appeal to the child in all of us, showcasing spectacular builds and inspire the next generation of artists, engineers, architects and builders”.

LEGO Masters launches on Thursday 24th August at 8pm on Channel 4
