Wild concept renderings of tech devices are a dime a dozen, but when a major tech company shows one off, people tend to pay attention.

On Tuesday, Lenovo uses the Lenovo Transform event in the New York to show off what it thinks may be the future of mobile computing: a bendable laptop. No, not bendable as in "with a hinge,"but like a piece of paper, except made of plastic and with a color display.

Lenovo's senior vice president of commercial business, Christian Teismann, unveiled the concept. Before showing it off, Teismann first took the audience through the history of Lenovo's laptop product line and then delivered the moment that compelled everyone to whip out their smartphones and snap a photo of the futuristic device.

A couple things that stand out are the fact that it has no trackpad. Instead, the graphic indicates that your primary mouse input functions will be carried out via voice commands. There's also a stylus (fashioned as a pencil) that would allow you to write on the screen. As for how the screen will become so compliantly bendable, the only details offered on stage were that the housing and screen would be made of "advanced materials" and "new screen technologies."

Unfortunately, the image shown is just a rendering and doesn't even exist as a real prototype. But that's OK. Innovation (whether it's a feature we really need or not) starts with a vision, and if this is what Lenovo can deliver in the coming years, we can't wait.

That is, assuming we're still using laptops and not brain implants with contact lens displays by the time they make this thing real.
