Lenovo's got another Android tablet with its futuristic 'Halo' keyboard
One of the coolest (but maybe not the most practical) tablets of last year, the Lenovo Yoga Book, now has a new sibling.
Lenovo's new Yoga A12 still keeps the Yoga Book's head-turning illuminating "Halo" keyboard, but it's got a larger display and a more affordable price.
At $299, the Yoga A12 is instantly more attractive compared to the Yoga Book's $499 price tag.
Under the hood, the Yoga A12 has an Intel Atom x5 processor, 2GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage, and up to 13 hours of battery life with mixed usage. They're not exactly super-powered specs, but they should be just good enough to get some light word processing and gaming in.
To get to the lower price, Lenovo had to cut a few corners. The touchscreen, though larger at 12.2-inches, only has HD (1,280 x 800) resolution; the Yoga Book had a full HD (1,920 x 1,080).
Lenovo also had to nix the Yoga Book's sweet digitizer built into the non-screen half that lets you write or draw on a pad of paper with a real pen and create a digital copy. The digitizer is one of the Yoga Book's marquee features and it saddens me to not see it on the slightly larger and roomier Yoga A12.
Like the Yoga Book, the Yoga A12 seems destined to be a device for voracious content devourers. The "Halo" keyboard, while pretty to look at all day, is unlikely to be comfortable for writing your novel.
But hey -- and this is huge -- at it least comes in rose gold (and gunmetal gray for you more boring types)!
