HOLLYWOOD -- It really happened: Leonardo DiCaprio won his first Oscar on Sunday for wrestling with a bear in The Revenant

Just kidding -- he did more than that in the Alejandro Iñárritu-directed movie. And turns out, the fifth nomination is the charm for the 41-year-old actor.

DiCaprio was previously nominated for his roles in The Wolf of Wall Street (2014), Blood Diamond (2007), The Aviator (2005) and What’s Eating Gilbert Grape (1994). (He has actually been nominated six times overall; he was a producer of The Wolf of Wall Street, which was nominated for Best Picture.)

DiCaprio was considered a frontrunner this year after nabbing statuettes at the Golden Globes and Screen Actors Guild Awards.

"The Revenant was the product of the tireless efforts of an unbelievable cast and crew," he said during his speech, thanking Tom Hardy, Iñárritu, Fox and New Regency. Martin Scorsese, his parents and friends got a shout-out.

He also got political, touching on global warming.

"Climate change is real: It is happening right now, it is a most urgent threat facing our entire species and we need to work collectively together and stop procrastinating. We need to support leaders around the world who do not speak for the big polluters but who speak for all of humanity. ... Let us not take this planet for granted; I do not take tonight for granted."

DiCaprio beat out Bryan Cranston (Trumbo), Matt Damon (The Martian), Michael Fassbender (Steve Jobs) and Eddie Redmayne (The Danish Girl).

Guess it's finally time to say to goodbye to the "Leo wants an Oscar" memes.

The Internet -- of course -- was very happy for Leo. Everyone from Bill Nye the Science Guy to Lindsay Lohan tweeted congratulations to the star.
