Of all days, LG chose April 1 to launch its video commercial for its upcoming flagship phone, the LG G5.

That wouldn't be a problem if the ad wasn't all sorts of weird. It features Jason Statham and is basically an action-packed version of Being John Malkovich and Aphex Twin's legendary Come to Daddy video. Expect to see a lot of Jason Stathams, that's all we're saying.

Quirkiness and curious launch date choice aside, the ad does a pretty good job of showing the variety of gadgets LG has launched this February.

In it, you'll see the LG's modular design being employed in a variety of (bizarre) situations. LG's VR headset, 360-degree cam and even the ball-shaped robot all make an appearance, though you'll likely have to watch the ad several times to catch all the details (do it, it's quite fun).

Even if some do mistake the entire thing for a joke, the ad is appropriate, as the LG G5, with its modular design, dual camera and a ton of accessories, is very different from all the other Android flagships we've seen this year. Read our review here
