At this year's WWDC, Apple announced a feature that's of special interest for travelers: AirPlay is coming to hotel rooms. Now, LG is the first major manufacturer to make it actually happen.

The idea is simple: Hotel room TVs are often useless, as many travelers these days rely on streaming services which they simply cannot access in hotels. Apple is trying to change that with AirPlay; a hotel guest could simply scan a QR code and be able to access their streaming services on the hotel room TV, as well as share content there.

On Thursday, LG announced the first commercial TV sets that will support this technology.

According to the company, AirPlay will be available to guests in hotel rooms that have LG Pro:Centric Smart Hotel TVs, starting "later this year at select properties."

"Hotels that offer this feature will have an immediate leg up with travelers who use Apple devices, boosting guest satisfaction while providing real differentiation from local competition," hospitality vice president at LG Business Solutions USA Michael Kosla said in a statement.

The system won't require users to download an app or remember any login info or password. Once they scan a unique QR code on their hotel TV, they will be able to stream videos, as well as share videos, photos, and music on it. So far, the only confirmed streaming service on offer is AppleTV+, but others will likely be available as well. Of course, a subscription to streaming services will be required to access them.
