LG G5 is extremely easy to tear down, repair

We sort of suspected this, but it's good to know.

Probably for the first time ever, I can say that I've disassembled a phone faster than the folks at iFixit, whose regular teardowns of gadgets usually come within hours they hit the market.

The phone in case is the LG G5, and I didn't need any tools to do it. At a pre-launch event in Barcelona in February, due to the device's modular design, I removed the G5's bottom half, its battery module, and then tore even that to two pieces before attaching a different, camera-focused module to the phone.

The G5's modularity makes iFixit's detailed teardown, which came out Wednesday, even more interesting. I suspected the G5 would be quite easy to disassemble and repair if need be, and I wasn't wrong.

Fully disassembling the phone is quite easy, not only due to its modular design, but also thanks to LG's use of regular screws and an almost complete absence of glue. Thanks to all this, the folks from iFixit gave the G5 one of the highest repairability scores for a smartphone ever: 8 out of 10.

Other interesting tidbits from the teardown include the battery capacity being 2,800mAh -- lower than the 3,000mAh battery in the LG G4. This is not great, but it's somewhat offset by the battery's easy interchangeability.

Also, the main rear camera -- the G5 has two rear cameras and a total of three if you count the selfie cam -- has the same specs as the one used in the G4, though judging by appearances, there are some differences between the two. It's reinforced by the wide-angle, 8-megapixel auxiliary rear camera, which will make your shots wider than what you'd get with most other phones.
