People on Twitter drag reporter who claims nobody goes to libraries anymore

Don't cross librarians or you'll regret it.

A New York Observer columnist based in London, Andre Walker, dared to state in a provocative tweet that "nobody goes to libraries anymore".

"Close the public ones and put the books in schools," is his tongue-in-cheek suggestion.

When people posted to him pictures of people at libraries, Walker dismissed it, repeating his outrageous claim:

In another tweet, Walker insulted librarians saying they're like "French teachers".

"These jobs exist in order to pay the wages of sad people who can't get proper work," he said.

However, people were not ready to back down.

First, a call to arms to all the people who go to libraries went viral:

Then, the self-proclaimed "angriest librarian" (@HalpernAlex) launched a long, epic rant, which also went nuts:

Soon, other people joined the fight:

And Walker, well, he had to apologise to the library-goers and librarians after 110,000 people replied to his tweet:
