Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda's Tony Awards acceptance speech reminded a world devastated by the tragic mass shooting at a gay nightclub in Orlando of the healing power of love.

And since this is Lin-Manuel, the whole thing was a sonnet, of course.

"We chase the melodies that seem to find us until they're finished songs and start to play," said Manuel. "When senseless acts of tragedy remind us that nothing here is promised. Not one day."

Carol King handed Manuel one of what will likely be many awards he takes home Sunday night for Best Original Score Written for Theatre.

Manuel thanked his wife for her support and continued speaking, addressing the shooting and bringing the Beacon Theater to tears.

"This show is proof that history remembers. We live through times when hate and fear seem stronger, we rise and fall and light from dying embers, remembrances that hope and love last longer," Manuel insisted.

"Love is love is love is love is love is love is love -- cannot be killed or swept aside."

Update: Lin-Manuel Miranda told Vulture about the inspiration for his tribute.

I hadn’t written anything going into today, and I only heard about today’s events after our Tony rehearsal. I’d always kind of had this time between rehearsal and tonight to sit and think about what I would say if I was lucky enough to be called up, and it sort of informed all of it, obviously. You know, we live in this world where beautiful and horrible things exist at the same time, and sometimes on the same day, so you can’t let that go by; you can’t let that moment go by, particularly when theater is the cornerstone of, you know … theater doesn’t exist without the LGBTQ community. It’s the cornerstone of our industry, and so, you know, it’s heavy in my heart today.
