Here's how women are represented (or not) in LinkedIn's highest-paying jobs

Usually LinkedIn's jobs data is at least a little uplifting: here are the jobs to pursue for the highest salaries, or the jobs that have the most promise this year.

This time around, the data is pretty depressing. Among the 100 highest-paying jobs in the United States, women make up around only 30 percent of employees on average in each role. The only high-paying jobs where women outnumber men are all in human resources.

LinkedIn decided to look at gender representation in top-paying jobs at the end of Women's History Month and ahead of equal pay day on April 4, the day women must work to in 2017 to earn what men did in 2016.

LinkedIn analyzed the profiles of verified LinkedIn members who shared salary information to determine total compensation, including bonuses and stock, for its top jobs. The jobs network doesn't ask users to specify their gender, so LinkedIn looked at first names to estimate the proportion of users who were men and women.

The jobs, ranked by compensation, are mostly in medicine, finance and business.

Take a look at the list of 20 top jobs that employ very few women to see the wage gap in action:

3. Chief Risk Officer Percentage of women in this role: 27% Total compensation: $390,000

4. Cardiologist Percentage of women in this role: 21% Total compensation: $382,000

5. Tax Partner Percentage of women in this role: 25% Total compensation: $376,000

6. Radiologist Percentage of women in this role: 27% Total compensation: $374,000

7. Anesthesiologist Percentage of women in this role: 27% Total compensation: $350,000

8. Surgeon Percentage of women in this role: 20% Total compensation: $350,000

9. Chief Medical Officer Percentage of women in this role: 21% Total compensation: $338,000

10. Emergency Physician Percentage of women in this role: 27% Total compensation: $314,000

11. Special Counsel Percentage of women in this role: 41% Total compensation: $300,000

12. Senior Vice President Finance Percentage of women in this role: 25% Total compensation: $300,000
