Many media outlets, including ours sadly, misread Lorde when she spoke Friday about her relationship with Taylor Swift.

In response to reports claiming she wasn't actually a part of Swift's squad after comments she made during a Sunrise interview, Lorde released a statement on Twitter later in the day, clarifying her answers and setting the record straight about her and Taylor's friendship.

Taylor is a dear friend. I love her very much. In the interview in question I had just been talking about [Davie] Bowie and Patti Smith -- those were the 'idol's I was referring to that I was saying I'm not friends with, not Taylor!

I've always found people's perception of this 'squad' idea frustrating in the past; it was never some exclusive club or secret society, but a wide circle of people, some of whom I know, and some of who I've never met, like most wide groups of friends. Forgive me for the mild eye roll I popped when it was popped when it was brought up as if we're all blood members of a secret cult.

Really shitty to wake up to headlines about whether or not you've jumped ship on someone you deeply respect and ride for. I want to say one more time that Taylor has been there for me in all my dark and light moments these past five years. All of them. I feel truly terrible that it would ever seem like I wasn't faithfully her person.

I fucked up in an interview question, now go sip a beverage and head out on a walk.

In the statement, she says she loves her "dear friend" Taylor very much, and that the "squad" everyone refers to is not a "secret cult," but a "wide circle of people."

She continues to say that Swift has been there for her in all her "dark and light moments these past five years."

Once again, the intelligent singer has let her voice be known and silenced everyone else.
