This is melodrama.

ICYMI: Lorde is queen of the girl squad now.

This prestigious title means the 20-year-old can finally share her true feelings about gal pal Taylor Swift — who has not yet released a life changing album in 2017, and is therefore not our current obsession. However, with her newly earned honor, the Melodrama singer recently sparked a fair share of confusion and controversy amongst fans.

When dishing on her friendship with Swift, Lorde casually compared hanging with the A-lister to someone "with an autoimmune disease."

Not cool, Lorde. Not. Cool.

In a feature published on Saturday, The Guardian asked Lorde what it's like to maintain a friendship with someone as famous as Taylor Swift, who, let's not forget, has been almost completely off the radar lately except for her recent return to Spotify.

"It’s like having a friend with very specific allergies," Lorde began, clearly not about to hold anything back. "There are certain places you can’t go together. Certain things you can’t do. There are these different sets of considerations within the friendship."

Then she went on to explain her relationship with Tay Tay is "like having a friend with an autoimmune disease." EEEEeeeek.

Fans were quick to single out the quote, sharing disappointment in Lorde's comparison on Twitter and schooling her on the realities of living with autoimmune diseases.

While Lorde was likely just trying to communicate in a melodramatic way that Swift's fame is a little much for eeeeeh-na-na-na, everyone, comparing a real struggle like autoimmune diseases to the burden of fame is...not the right tact to take.
