All I want from 'M3GAN 2' is M3GAN vs. M3GAN

Let them fight!

We know her, we love her, we crave more of her. She's M3GAN, a lifelike doll who is just as likely to bust a viral dance move as she is to rip your ear off. Above all else, she's a star.

With her preppy clothes, icy stare, and titanium bones, M3GAN steals the show in her self-titled movie. Tragically for M3GAN's most fervent stans, this pint-sized rascal's killing spree is cut short by Cady (Violet McGraw) and Gemma (Allison Williams), who destroy her in M3GAN's third act.

Or do they?

In the film's final moments, it's revealed that M3GAN has hopped into Gemma's smart home operating system Elsie, setting up a potential sequel which is already in development, according to Deadline. And while I have no clue what the plot of that sequel would entail, I do have one, bone-deep wish: I want to see M3GAN fight another M3GAN.

We've already seen M3GAN fight another robot in Bruce, but let's be real: That was just a warm-up. Bruce is nowhere near as fabulous as M3GAN, and he was being controlled by Cady the whole time! That fight only lightly scratched my itch for ridiculous robot fights. For true satisfaction, I need M3GAN to meet her match. And right now, the only being who can truly compare to M3GAN is M3GAN herself.

Naturally, my primal desire to see two preppy androids duke it out raises a few logistical questions. First, M3GAN isn't in her true M3GAN form anymore, so how would we get multiple versions of her? I see a few ways forward: Perhaps another toy company stole M3GAN's code though corporate espionage — remember thieving assistant Kurt (Stephane Garneau-Monten)? Or maybe M3GAN is able to possess some other robotic form, like she did with Elsie. Whatever it is, I trust the power of Hollywood and wishful thinking to get it done.

Next, why would M3GAN be fighting another M3GAN? Shouldn't M3GANs be uniting for the benefit of android and M3GAN-kind? To which I say, no! M3GAN is a petty attention hog. There's no way she'd risk sharing the spotlight.

As funny as it would be, android diva-ness can't be the only reason for M3GAN-on-M3GAN violence. There has to be some kind of deeper drive to these fighting M3GANs — something in their code. So let's say more M3GANs get made and distributed to children. What happens if two M3GAN-owning children get into a brawl? Let's break it down with two hypothetical kids, Jim and Bob.

Imagine, if you will, that Jim and Bob are having a classic schoolyard dustup. When Jim attacks Bob, Bob's M3GAN would instantly perceive him as a threat. Because of her programming, she'd try to take him down, just as M3GAN protected Cady from Brandon (Jack Cassidy) in the woods. But in attacking Jim, Bob's M3GAN suddenly becomes the threat to Jim, causing his M3GAN to target her. Since each M3GAN sees the other as a threat to their primary users, they'll have no choice but to fight.

That fight could take a number of shapes: a dance-off, a "Titanium" sing-off, or a bout of good, old-fashioned fisticuffs. But no matter what, when it's over, I want to see circuitry and little tufts of M3GAN wig on the floor!

"But wouldn't multiple M3GANs risk being too much of a good thing?" you may ask. And that is a valid concern! However, if Terminator 2 can give us a kick-ass showdown between two Terminators, I trust that a sequel to M3GAN can do something similar (albeit much campier). And who is M3GAN if not the Terminator's prettier, better-dressed baby sister? She'll be back! And hopefully, she won't be alone.

M3GAN is now in theaters.
