Madeleine Albright has a strong response to President Trump's immigration policies

Madeleine Albright tweeted her plan for action.

Former U.S. Secretary of State Madeleine Albright has said that she’s ready to register as Muslim amid reports that Donald Trump to take executive action affecting immigrants traveling to the country.

"I was raised Catholic, became Episcopalian & found out later my family was Jewish. I stand ready to register as Muslim in #solidarity," Albright tweeted.

She also tweeted a picture of the Statue of Liberty with the quote: "Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, The wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me. I lift my lamp beside the golden door."

"America must remain open to people of all faiths & backgrounds," Albright wrote.

Albright, the first woman to have become the U.S. secretary of state, was born in Prague in 1937 but left with her parents after the Nazi occupation. Following a period in the UK and Czechoslovakia, she eventually moved to the U.S..

In an interview with the Washington Post in 1997, Albright said her parents, who converted to Catholicism, never talked about their Jewish background.

A draft executive order obtained by AP shows that President Trump intends to stop accepting Syrian refugees and will block the U.S. broader refugee program for 12 days.

According to the report, Trump also plans to suspend the issuing of visas for people from Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria or Yemen for at least 30 days.

During his presidential campaign, Trump said he would "absolutely" require Muslims to register in a database, reinstating the National Security Entry-Exit Registration System, a policy implemented after the 9/11 terror attacks.

The Associated Press contributed reporting.
