Montreal duo Majical Cloudz are calling it quits (quitz?) and heading to the heavens.

The band, made up of vocalist Devon Welsh and instrumentalist Matthew Otto, are known for their emotional live performances. Welsh's intense delivery and Otto's shimmering synths have a habit of turning audiences into puddles, and caught the eye of Lorde, who brought the relatively unknown band on tour with her in 2014.

Welsh announced the break up on the band's Tumblr, writing, "we both feel it to be the completion of something positive." It's a perfect break up, especially for them, but it doesn't mean the news is any less heart-wrenching than one of their songs.

Welsh thanks the people who made the band possible and lets fans know what they'll be up to next. You can read the full statement here.

Welsh will be releasing music under his name and Otto has a new project called Dahlia. He's keeping busy producing records and working on a film score.

Majical Cloudz will play a farewell show in their hometown of Montreal.

The band had been active since 2010 and released two full length albums. Most recently, they put out Wait and See, an EP of songs from the recording sessions of 2015's excellent Are You Alone?

They have collaborated with fellow Canadians Grimes and Owen Pallett.
