Netflix will produce new episodes of the documentary series Making a Murderer, the company announced Tuesday.

The second season will focus on life post-conviction for Steven Avery and co-defendant Brendan Dassey. The pair's legal teams will be seen going up against the state of Wisconsin to challenge those convictions.

The initial run of the show, released last December, followed Avery over 10 years, after he served 18 years in prison for the sexual assault and attempted murder of Penny Beerntsen and was subsequently exonerated, only to be convicted four years later for the murder of Teresa Halbach.

In January, co-creators Laura Ricciardi and Moira Demos said that new episodes could be possible, and that they were still in touch with Avery, recording their phone calls just in case they would be useful down the line.

The second season is expected to follow Avery's lawyer Kathleen Zellner along with Dassey's legal team, Netflix said.
