When it comes to social interaction, suddenly living in an underground bunker doesn't seem so bad.

If there's anyone who knows something about making new friends as a full grown adult, it's Kimmy Schmidt.

It's hard to bond outside of the forced interaction of college gatherings and underground doomsday bunkers, but Kimmy seems to do just fine in her first year in New York City.

Take a page from Kimmy's sunny disposition and you might just find out what it's like to be popular.

1. Smile at everybody.

It's a biological fact: people react when they see a dazzling smile. Just try not to stare at them too long.

2. Wear bright colors.

Via Giphy

People are like birds and butterflies. They're attracted to bright colors and patterns and will flock to the brightest person in the room, naturally. Be that person. Never stop being that person. Feel free to mix and match.

3. Lure them in with the promise of cash, and then lose everything you have in a nightclub to find out who your real friends are.

Via Giphy

Nothing tests your true friendship like a crisis. While your friends might have been motivated by money in the first place, just remember that the ones who are left at the end of the night are the ones who are there for good. Or at least the ones who are confident that you'll get your money back. It came from somewhere, right?

4. Know that you can be friends with anyone, no matter what.

If they are terrible, just count to ten slowly and then start all over again!

5. Baby-Sitter’s Club Mysteries books tell you everything you need to know in life.

Via Giphy

Always look to nostalgia to help you unlock the true secrets of friendship.

6. Come up with cool nicknames for the person you're courting for friendship.

Via Giphy

Everyone likes a cool nickname, no matter how much they say they don't. It'll grow on them.

7. Promise them that you won't lock them in an armageddon bunker. Promise until they believe you.

Via Giphy

You'll never let that happen to them. Not. Ever.

8. Be insufferably nice. Even when they're insulting you.

Via Giphy

You won't let those Negative Nellies get you down. They'll love you in the end. They always do.

9. Keep positive. They're always something to be excited about.

Via Giphy

Looking on the bright side never fails, and people will respond to your positivity with more positivity. How can they not, right?

10. Laugh every day.

Via Giphy

When you laugh, the world laughs with you. Laugh heartily, maniacally and as publicly as you can. The world is your oyster and you have so many friends to share it with.
