Man asks Twitter for birthday drinks, gets way more than he bargained for

This was only ever going to end one way.

If you ask the internet for help, sometimes -- just sometimes -- it will deliver in a big way.

It just might not be quite the way you were expecting.

On Wednesday, a man called Rory went for a birthday drink with his friend Nick in Sheffield, UK. He posted the following, fairly innocent request on Twitter:

See, because they were at a Wetherspoons pub, anyone with the Wetherspoons app could order a drink remotely on their behalf.

Perhaps they were hoping a few friends who couldn't be there in person would send over a pint. Maybe, if they were lucky, a stranger or two would chip in.

That wasn't quite what happened, though.

Yep: very quickly, things began to go wrong.

The whole situation escalated pretty quickly.

At one point there was a brief reprieve.

Then, abruputly, things got ridiculous again.

An hour and a half later, Rory and Nick attempted to make their escape.

But the internet wasn't having any of it.

The lesson? If you're going to ask the internet for help, you have to be prepared for the ramifications...
