Not everyone has to reach meme status to become super famous, but it certainly seems to help.

British actor and comedian Michael Dapaah knows this better than most people.

Over the past couple of months he's cemented his place in the hall of internet fame with his character Big Shaq: a spoof grime MC and the persona behind the wildly popular comedy rap "Mans Not Hot".

Although plenty of memes have a fairly short shelf life, "Mans Not Hot" is still going strong two months in.

It started at the end of August, when Dapaah appeared on BBC Radio 1 Extra to perform some freestyle rap in the character of "Big Shaq" (skip to about 10:30 in the video below for his rap, in all its glory):

That clip has now been viewed almost 5 million times.

Initially, the sounds effects Dapaah makes at around 12:15 -- "the ting goes skrrrraaaaaa, pap pap ka ka ka" -- were what really took off.

Almost two months after that radio appearance, though, Dapaah came back with a music video. That one's racked up over 14 million views in less than a week, and now the whole song is pretty much a meme.

This Twitter thread is beautiful proof of just how damn popular the whole thing is.

This meme isn't going anywhere anytime soon.

Mashable has reached out to Dapaah's representatives, and we will update this article if we receive a response.
