Mariah Carey formally kicks off the holiday season, those are the rules
Common wisdom tells us that the annual U.S. holiday season begins after Thanksgiving. But real ones understand that it's actually Mariah Carey who's in charge.
With Halloween officially in the rearview as of Sunday, the "All I Want For Christmas Is You" singer took to her social media accounts with a message. The holiday season has begun. So start getting festive, folks.

For those who aren't familiar, this has become a Thing for Carey. She did a similar one in 2019, staging a post-Halloween video in which she gets a call from none other than Santa Claus himself. That's the moment the 2019 holiday season began.

This time, Carey's back with another post-Halloween video. A masked, robed stranger guides us through a pair of spooky doors, eventually revealing Carey, decked out in her Christmas jammies and sitting front of a fully decorated tree.
The video ends with a caption: "It's time! (But let's get through Thanksgiving first)." Diplomatically apolitical. A majority of Americans would probably fire back on Nov. 1, 2020 that the real hump we need to get past is Election Day on Nov. 3 and the legally mandated vote counting that will follow in subsequent days (and hopefully not weeks, but maybe weeks).
Still, Carey has officially proclaimed the start of the 2020 holiday season, so that's that. It's the 2020 holiday season now. Sorry, I don't make the rules.
