Shirtless Mario is here to ruin all of your happy childhood video game memories

Three words: Mario has nipples.

Nintendo has kicked off an era of revelations for our favourite videogame plumber character.

First, the (non-)announcement: Mario is not a plumber anymore. (Not that he'd being doing a lot of pipe repairs recently anyway. Who's ever seen the moustachioed little guy doing any plumbing in its 32-year-old history.)

Now, a new revelation: Mario has been spotted in the latest Nintendo Direct presentation for Super Mario Odyssey without a shirt on. And despite having no belly button a-la Kyle XY, he definitely has nipples.

People on social media had a lot of feelings:

Others made more logical assumptions (though Mario is not a normal human, despite Nintendo's insistence that he is):

Of course, somebody had kinda fetish and zoomed in, with a little addition:

Others noticed with frustration "The Legend of Zelda" main character, Link, doesn't have nipples:

Wait a minute: turns out there was a previous version of shirtless Mario!
