Mark Hamill went full dad joke with the Star Wars 'Episode IX' trailer
Mark Hamill you rascal.
The Luke Skywalker actor had a good laugh at everyone's expense on Saturday when he tweeted a look at his very own trailer for Star Wars Episode IX. His very literal trailer that he hung out in when he wasn't on set.
This Tweet is currently unavailable. It might be loading or has been removed.
(I'm not even sure this is the Episode IX trailer he used, not that it matters.)
This is a full-on, completely remorseless dad joke, in case anyone wasn't clear. Hamill is basically a dad to all of geekdom (not to mention his three actual children) so the sence of humor tracks.
That's it. That's the tweet. Hamill claims he doesn't know when the Episode IX trailer is coming, and we don't either. The final chapter in the "Skywalker Saga" is set to hit theaters in December, so we'll hopefully see something soon.
The smart money is on a trailer debut at or around Star Wars Celebration, the not-exactly-annual fan convention that kicks off in Chicago on April 11. It wouldn't be the show's only reveal, that's for sure.
With the Disney parks addition of Star Wars Galaxy's Edge opening in California on May 31, Celebration should bring detailed looks at the nearly-completed project. There's also the Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order video game from Titanfall and Apex Legends developer Respawn Entertainment; the game was first teased at E3 in 2018 and it's set for a bigger debut at April's show.
An Episode IX trailer would be the perfect cherry on top of a jam-packed Star Wars Celebration. The 2019 movie also marks a turning point for the series as a whole, as George Lucas's Skywalker Saga comes to a close and the stories Lucasfilm-via-Disney continues to tell take -- to paraphrase a wise Jedi Master -- take yet another step into a larger world.
Until then we're stuck with Papa Hamill and his lame (but great) trailer joke. Thanks, dad.
