Fans who stayed out late to see the New York Comic Con panel for Marvel's Runaways got a treat on Friday night, when the Hulu premiered the series' first episode on the main stage in front of a packed audience.

The response was rapturous, and it was clear that there were plenty of comic book fans in attendance since there were gasps and cheers in all the right places when the series paid homage to its source material.

You can get a hint of what the show has in store from the first teaser trailer, which was released a few hours before the panel:

We won't spoil the surprises for you, just in case Marvel's S.H.I.E.L.D. agents hunt us down, but viewers familiar with Brian K. Vaughan and Adrian Alphona's comics will be very happy with how the series begins.

"We've been working on this for over two years," co-showrunner Josh Schwartz said on the panel, admitting that he's been a big fan of the property for years.

"It was my favorite comic... The first time I read the comic, I said, 'I don’t know who this Brian K. Vaughn is, but this is my people, he's speaking to me directly.' He's the best."

Judging from the reaction after the screening, the show resonated with longtime fans and newcomers alike:

Marvel's Runaways premieres Nov. 21 on Hulu with its first three episodes.
