'Mary Poppins Returns' set for Xmas 2018, and yes, Lin Manuel-Miranda's in
Get ready for a supercalifragilisticexpialidocious Christmas in 2018.
Disney announced on Tuesday that its Mary Poppins sequel, titled Mary Poppins Returns, will bow for the holiday that's still more than two years off. The studio confirmed that Hamilton mastermind Lin-Manuel Miranda will star alongside Oscar nominee Emily Blunt, who's in the title role.
Miranda will play a new character named Jack, a street lamplighter.

The plot will revolve around the grownup version of Jane and Michael Banks as they live in Depression-era London. Rob Marshall (Into the Woods) will direct.
"I am truly humbled and honored to be asked by Disney to bring P.L. Travers’ further adventures to the screen," Marshall says in a statement. "The iconic original film means so much to me personally, and I look forward to creating an original movie musical that can bring Mary Poppins, and her message that childlike wonder can be found in even the most challenging of times, to a whole new generation."
The original Mary Poppins was released in 1964 and collected five Oscars. Julie Andrews starred as the titular character, while Dick Van Dyke co-starred as a cockney chimney sweep.
Mary Poppins Returns will hit theaters on Dec. 25, 2018.
