Users of Microsoft Edge, the company's replacement for Internet Explorer and the default browser in Windows 10, are getting their first taste of extensions, albeit only in beta.

Build 14291 of Windows 10, released Thursday and available to users who participate in Microsoft's Windows Insider Program, now comes with support for extensions.

To try out the new feature, click on "More" in the top right corner of Edge and then on "Extensions" to open the Extensions pane.

Once the browser is released to the public (later this year, according to Microsoft), the extensions will be available through the Windows Store; right now, you need to install them manually.

Three extensions are available at launch: Microsoft Translator, Mouse Gestures and Reddit Enhancement Suite. Microsoft claims more are on the way, one of them being AdBlock Plus.

Other improvements in this version of Edge include pinned tabs, as well as "Paste and go" and "Paste and search" contextual options in the taskbar.

Extensions -- simple programs that enhance your browser's functionality -- are available in all major browsers, including Chrome, Safari and Firefox (where they're called add ons).
