It's a rare feat when a book can make you laugh and cry and feel everything in between, all at once. But Adam Silvera's new novel History Is All You Left Me does just that.

History Is All You Left Me follows Griffin, a very nerdy teen growing up in New York City. When Griffin's ex-boyfriend, Theo, accidentally drowns, his whole world is thrown into chaos. Though they were separated when Theo died, Griffin always saw himself reuniting with Theo and living happily ever after. Now, instead, Griffin finds himself grappling with the loss of his first love and the grief that comes when someone dies far too young.

To make matters more complicated, Griffin feels that the only person who understands his pain is Jackson, Theo's boyfriend at the time of his death. When Jackson comes to town for Theo's funeral, Jackson and Griffin strike up an unlikely friendship that may be just as destructive as it is therapeutic.

Thoughtful and devastating (but in the best way), History Is All You Left Me beautifully captures the complexities of grief, the heartbreak of lost love and what happens when the future we've imagined for ourselves is no longer possible.

This month, Mashable's social book club MashReads will be reading and discussing History Is All You Left Me. You can join the conversation on Facebook, Twitter, and Goodreads. And don't forget to use the hashtag #MashReads to let us know what you think of the book.

Silvera will also be chatting with MashReads IRL on Thursday, Feb. 23 at 6:30 p.m. ET, at Mashable HQ in New York City. You can RSVP here. We hope you can join the discussion.
