Everyone's mocking the animations in the new 'Mass Effect'

Legs don't work like that... do they?

The Mass Effect series, though at times controversial, has been great. We've loved it. We love loving aliens (and other species) in it. What we don't love are these animations.

As indie developer Nathan Ranney pointed out on Twitter, the facial animations are of particular note.

I mean...

Who grimaces like that?

Is this a normal smile?

I guess this could be a (bad) impression of the salty reaction GIF?

Maybe they're just practicing enunciating here?

He had to go, his people needed him.

Probably a shockwave punch, maybe.

Oh, look, there's a QWOP mini-game in Mass Effect. Here's another crab-walk animation that looks like it was pulled from Reddit, too:

It's not just Ranney (and Reddit) that's noticed the issue, though. Our own Adam Rosenberg has his head down in awkward animations right now, playing the game for review. A quick search on Twitter reveals many other early players discussing whether or not the goofy animations even bother them.

There are more analytical takes on the situation, too. Like this video from YouTube user xLetalis, in which he explains that the awkward animations have actually been a topic of conversation since a few months ago:

You can see for yourself with the game's early access, or wait for its release on March 21.
