Lena Waithe takes home historic Emmy win for 'Master of None' and her speech will make you cry

Master of None "Thanksgiving" was more than just one of the best television episodes of 2017. The episode, co-written by Aziz Ansari and Lena Waithe, was a triple threat -- a complex and beautiful story about women, people of color, and a fully-formed LGBTQ+ protagonist.

Which made its Emmy win Sunday night that much sweeter.

Waithe is the first black woman ever to win an Emmy for Outstanding Writing in a Comedy Series (Donald Glover was the first black man to win for Directing a Comedy Series earlier in the same evening).

In her speech, Waithe spoke directly to her LGBTQ+ family, saying "I see each and every one of you," and urging love, acceptance and support (Ansari, who won last year, stood aside and let her do the talking).

The win even garnered a standing ovation -- the second in the night after a 9 to 5 reunion with Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin, and Dolly Parton.
