St. Louis Cardinals star Matt Holliday is "day to day" after a pitch traveling 95 miles per hour slammed into his face during a Thursday night MLB game.

That's right -- Holliday took a 95-mph pitch to the face and somehow avoided significant injury.

Matt Holliday was hit by a fastball from Padres pitcher Andrew Cashner in the sixth inning Thursday night. The mis-thrown pitch hit Holliday square in the face -- "near the left side of his nose and upper lip," according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Holliday went down and was visibly -- and understandably! -- looking pretty discombobulated after taking the fastball to his face. Blood trickled from his nose and mouth as he took your old Little League coach's advice and walked off the pain.

Amazingly, the Cardinals later reported Holliday somehow avoided both structural damage and a concussion on the play, per the Post-Dispatch.

“We got real fortunate," Cardinals manager Mike Matheny told the paper. "Getting hit in the face, it would be hard to say it’s fortunate, but it could have been a lot worse. His beak’s a little sore right now and he’s still got some blood trickling out. Structurally, everything checked out good. No concussion either.”
