Quick-thinking McDonald's employee leaps through a window to help save a cop

Some heroes wear capes, some wear a McDonald's uniform.

On Tuesday morning, McDonald's employee Pedro Viloria jumped through the restaurant's drive-thru window to save an off-duty Miami-Dade police officer who had fallen ill behind the wheel of her vehicle with her two children in the backseat.

Viloria was serving breakfast to the mom and police officer, but when her car never stopped at the window, he realized something was very wrong.

“Her kids were screaming, ‘Mother, mother, stop it, mother what are you doing,’” the employee recalled of the car driving by the window to CBS Miami.

When it became clear the woman's foot was off the break, Viloria knew he had to move quickly, and made the decision to jump out the window and rush to the car.

“I thought, ‘If those kids lose their mother today, that’s going to be tragic,’” he explained.

Coincidentally, a firefighter showed up to the McDonald's around the same time, and was able to quickly respond to the scene. An off-duty paramedic in the scene's vicinity also rushed to help -- and within minutes, fire rescue was at the scene.

McDonald's released a statement praising their employee for his quick and brave response to the emergency.

“First and foremost, our thoughts and prayers are with the officer and her family during this difficult time. I think I speak for our McDonald’s family when I say how proud we are of Pedro. He is an excellent employee, so it didn’t surprise me that he took immediate action and jumped through a window to help save this woman.  And he was not the only member of the team that played a pivotal role in ensuring she received the medical attention she needed. A second employee, who asked to remain unnamed, assisted with CPR. Their quick thinking and action were everything in that moment.”

Bravo to this brave worker.
