'Shooting Stars' meme blends epic fails with one electro track and it's taking over

The internet scores another home run.

There are many unsolved mysteries of the universe. Is there a God? What is our purpose? And perhaps the most pressing of all -- why are all those "Shooting Stars" memes currently doing the rounds on the internet so inexplicably funny?

They're essentially mash-ups of "epic fails" set to the tune of Bag Raiders' over-played 2009 hit "Shooting Stars." They shouldn't be hysterical. But they are.

Although the Australian act's song has been around for eight years now, "Shooting Stars" memes didn't take off till - video started doing the rounds.

The "Fat man does amazing dive -- Shooting Stars" dank masterpiece, with its crappy editing and terrible effects, set the tone for the copycat videos that followed.

As memes do, the "Shooting Stars" videos have started to expand and change, embracing all elements of pop culture.

And moving away from its starry, spacey roots.

Even eating up other memes in the process.

Certainly, this is a trend worth following closely. Even if it's not immediately obvious why one should.
