As the sun sets the Obamas tenure in the White House, Michelle Obama made what appears to be one final appearance as First Lady on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon Wednesday.

Naturally, her appearance was dedicated to a series of extended, emotional thank yous, lighter in tone to the President's speech the night before.

Walking out to Stevie Wonder's "Please Don't Go," performed by house band The Roots, Michelle was thanked repeatedly by Fallon for her appearances on the show.

"I just want to personally say thank you for being our only first family that we've had since we've started Late Night -- we've been doing bits and sketches together," Fallon said.

That eventually led to a segment called "Thank You Notes," where Michelle thanked Barack for being her "silver fox."

Fallon in turn thanked Michelle for her arms and her dancing abilities. It was excellent.

But what will get you really choked up is Michelle surprising people who were recording thank you messages to her, unaware she was hiding backstage.

"Did you prepare that ahead of time? Oh my god, that was so beautiful," Michelle said, as a woman cried in her arms in excitement.

A fitting farewell that's mostly celebration, not consternation. Thank YOU, Michelle!
