Microsoft is bringing Windows Holographic to all Windows 10 PCs
The software that powers Microsoft's HoloLens will soon be able to run on any Windows 10 PC.
An upcoming update will allow Windows 10 PCs to run the Windows Holographic shell and the augmented reality versions of Universal Windows apps, Microsoft's Terry Myerson announced during an appearance at Intel's Developer Forum in San Francisco Tuesday.
This means that anyone with a Windows 10 PC will be able to take advantage of the holographic versions of Windows apps from their PCs. The update will be compatible with Microsoft's HoloLens and Intel's newly announced Project Alloy, its standalone VR headset coming in 2017.

"The Windows Holographic shell enables an entirely new experience for multi-tasking in mixed reality, blending 2D and 3D apps at the same time," Microsoft's Terry Myerson wrote in a blog post.
The company hasn't said exactly how the update, currently slated for sometime in 2017, will work, but Myerson noted it will work with even low-end PCs like Intel's NUC, which was used in the onstage demo.
