Windows is getting an update that will please a lot of people who prefer using a pen over a mouse. With Windows Ink, Microsoft is integrating more Pen support into the entire OS and more apps on Surface computers.

Microsoft announced at the Build developer's conference that Windows Ink is coming with the Windows 10 Anniversary Update this summer, allowing Pen users to take advantage of the technology beyond a limited list of apps, including Maps, Sketchpad and Office. And this won't just let you scribble on the screen, Windows Ink will allow you to interact with these apps.

According to Microsoft, 72% of people spend at least an hour a day using a pen and paper. These new Pen integrations in Windows will afford users the ability to use their Pens more and remove the need to switch to a mouse and keyboard in some instances.

Now when you click the top of your Surface pen, a menu will pop up that will bring up your recently used Pen apps and suggested apps in the Windows Store.

Microsoft showed off how you can use the Pen on touch surfaces for 3D path creation in Maps and editing documents in Office apps like Word, including striking out sentences and making edits that are then digitized. Windows Ink also brings in a virtual ruler that allows you to draw straight lines and line up elements in any design software.

Microsoft is also providing app developers with the means to incorporate Pen capabilities into their programs.
