It's been revealed that, while serving as governor of Indiana, Vice President Mike Pence used his personal AOL email account for official business.

As The Indianapolis Star reports, the emails discussed sensitive matters and homeland security issues. It also reported that the account was hacked last summer.

Many people accused Pence, who heavily criticised Hillary Clinton during the presidential campaign for her use of a private email server while she was U.S. secretary of state, of double standards and hypocrisy:

For instance, in October last year Pence praised the FBI on Twitter for reopening the probe into Clinton's personal email server "because no one is above the law."

In an interview in October 2016 with CBS' Face the Nation, Pence said it was great news the agency decided to continue the investigation.

“That original decision was really incomprehensible,” he said. “To arrive at a place where even in his testimony before the Congress, and in that long press conference that he gave … that literally Hillary Clinton had classified information on a private server that she said she didn’t have … that, to me, is the kind of double standard that the American people are weary of.”

He also told Fox News in October that the American people "deserve to get the full and complete facts immediately" about the content of Clinton's emails.

"The message is very, very simple. That the American people have been troubled about the fact that Hillary Clinton continues to refuse to turn over some 33,000 emails," he said.

Earlier in the campaign, he said it would be "extremely careless" to elect Clinton as president:

It seems that, after the latest revelations, the tables have turned on him.
