Mike Pence was touching down in New York City when his plane suddenly skidded off the runway Thursday night.

The Boeing 737 veered off during landing at New York's LaGuardia Airport. No injuries were reported, according to CNN, as emergency personnel arrived.

News of the incident broke on Twitter after a passenger on board tweeted a photo from the scene.

Everyone on board was uninjured but flights to La Guardia were suspended.

"We could feel the plane moving, and it was just not a natural landing that you experience," CNN reporter Elizabeth Landers, who was on the plane, said.

Donald Trump was sure to check in with his running mate and assure everyone was safe and sound, Stephanie Grisham, a spokeswoman for the Trump campaign, told CNN. He was "very glad everyone onboard the plane is safe," she said.

Surveying the photos of the plane's placement, aviation experts guessed that the plane entered the EMAS (or engineered materials arresting system) at the end of the runway.

Pence confirmed that no one had been injured. "We can see mud on the front windows," he said in the press cabin about a minute after the plane came to rest. He said he felt fine. Passengers were evacuated through the back of the plane.

Of course, once it was confirmed that everyone was OK, the jokes came rolling in on Twitter - many of them on a similar theme.

The Associated Press contributed reporting.
