Alt-right troll Milo Yiannopoulos' memoir Dangerous isn't doing so well, despite what the provocateur called "titanic demand" during its promotion.

The book was finally released last week, a self-published affair after the former Breitbart editor lost his book deal with Simon & Schuster earlier this year.

In an email blast last month to push pre-orders for Dangerous, Yiannopoulos wrote, "We are feverishly printing books around the clock to fulfill the staggering orders both Amazon and Barnes & Noble have placed."

However, numbers from Nielsen Bookscan published by the Guardian show only 18,268 copies sold in the U.S. since its launch on July 4 -- and a paltry 152 in the UK. That's nowhere close to the 100,000 the book's publicity team were touting.

Yiannopoulos cried "fake news" at these numbers. He said the "real news" is that orders have come in for 105,000 copies. He said retail outlets hadn't pre-ordered enough copies. "We're seeing an uptick in orders and sales everywhere," he wrote Thursday in a Facebook post about the book's success.

On Amazon, Dangerous was at No. 5 on the nonfiction list at time of writing.

The book's not doing too badly compared to others on the hardcover nonfiction bestseller list like the No. 1 Rediscovering Americanism: And the Tyranny of Progressivism with 27,388 books sold last week, but it's way below first week sales for, say, Hillary Clinton's 2014 memoir Hard Choices, which sold 85,000 copies its first week.

Coinciding with the book release, Yiannopoulos sued his ex-publisher for $10 million. In the same email about pre-orders, he included a nasty line about Simon & Schuster. He wrote, "The sales numbers are high enough to leave a Simon & Schuster executive contemplating a rooftop dive similar to the one their Sharia-compliant politics would result in for Milo!"

Just average book release antics.
