This week was Most Memorable Year week on Dancing With the Stars. You know, the week where judges, viewers and sometimes the people dancing spontaneously burst into sobs as people talk about their deepest darkest traumas. It's always a great episode.

At the end of this one, though, one pair was still sent packing. This week, Mischa Barton, Jodie Sweetin and Doug Flutie found themselves on the chopping block but in the end, it was the O.C. alum who was sent packing.

This wasn't a huge surprise.

Last week's episode saw Mischa get less-than-desirable scores that left her in tears and, as we learned in this week's intro package, led to a shameful diva outburst behind the scenes where she blamed her partner for the scores.

She had a new outlook on it all going into this week, however -- well, that's what she told the cameras, anyway.

For her most memorable year, she chose 2008 -- the year she left The O.C. and dedicated some time to self exploration.

"Overnight fame can kill you," said best TV dad ever, Peter Gallagher, in Mischa's intro package. "I have an idea of the journey she's been on ... and just the fact that she's still showing up does my heart good."

To portray this moment in her life, Mischa and Artem danced to Miley Cyrus' "Party in the U.S.A." In other words, they made a huge mistake -- because, let's be honest, everyone had their hearts set on seeing Barton dance to "California."

Alas, it seems the moment O.C. fans were secretly hoping for will never be.

I know, I know: They sometimes bring back contestants from earlier in the season for the finale. But by then, it will be a make up test, a mea culpa. The magic that could have been made by seeing Mischa Barton channel Marissa Cooper one last time on the Dancing stage is now an opportunity lost.

There's no fixing this massive oversight.
