Miss America, America's favorite shitshow of a competition, has decided to make a radical change.

Gretchen Carlson, Former Fox News host and Chairwoman of the Board of Trustees of the Miss America Organization, announced Tuesday on Good Morning America that Miss America would be eliminating the swimsuit portion of its show and dropping the pageantry aspect.

Carlson says the "competition," as they're calling it moving forward, will be less focused on beauty, and more focused on what the contestants actually bring to the table, intellectually.

"We're not going to judge you on your outward appearance, because we're interested in what makes you you. Tell us about your goals, and your achievements in life," Carlson told GMA.

As is to be expected with stories like this, certain men online are deliberately missing the point. But don't worry, Twitter's on it:

According to Carlson, the gown competition will be revamped to allow women to wear whatever they want. Carlson also told GMA that the competition would be more inclusive of "women who may not have felt comfortable participating in our program before" due to the bikini event portion, another radical step for the organization.

The Miss America Twitter account celebrated the announcement with a Tweet tagged with the hashtag #byebikini, and featuring a clip of a white bikini bursting into dust.

Maybe Miss America is taking a page from the bra burners of the 1970s and reclaiming the practice as bikini burning – a very good throwback moment for 2018.

While I'm not quite sure what the competition will be about if not beauty, – "It's gonna be what comes out of [a contestant's] mouth that we're interested in," Carlson told GMA – but good news is hard to come by, so let's just embrace this PR campaign for what it is.
