There is nothing more painful than feeling excluded -- especially when it happens to your child.

Jennifer Kiss-Engele is mother to eight-year-old Sawyer, who happens to have Down Syndrome. Recently, Kiss-Engele discovered that a parent in her son's class invited every single other child in the class to a birthday party, with the exception of Sawyer.

Kiss-Engele doesn't expect every parent to invite every child, but it hurt when her child was the only one excluded. So Kiss-Engele posted a letter to the mom on Facebook, explaining why the other's parent decision caused so much pain.

"The only reason why you decided it was OK to not invite my son to your child’s birthday party is because he has Down Syndrome," Kiss-Engele wrote on Facebook. "I am sorry that you are not informed, maybe scared, or uncertain about what it means to have Down Syndrome."

Kiss-Engele further noted that her son had been invited to, "hardly anyone’s birthday party this past year."

Before posting the letter to Facebook, however, Kiss-Engele sent it to the mom directly. In response, the other mom not only invited Swayer, but sent him a special birthday invite.
