Ryan Murphy's American Horror Story franchise is already six seasons deep (with two more on the way), and his American Crime Story saga is rapidly catching up.

The first installment in the American Crime Story franchise, The People v. O.J. Simpson, has been dominating the awards circuit, so it's no surprise that FX and Fox 21 TV (the network and studio behind the project, respectively) are eager to line up future subjects for the series.

People v. O.J. was based on Jeffrey Toobin's book, The Run of His Life: The People v. O.J. Simpson. Mashable has confirmed that the producers of American Crime Story have optioned the rights to another Toobin tome, A Vast Conspiracy: The Real Sex Scandal That Nearly Brought Down a President -- which centers around the Monica Lewinsky scandal -- as source material for an upcoming season.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the project is being fast-tracked, with a casting search already underway for actresses to play Lewinsky and her colleague Linda Tripp.

Following the success of The People v. O.J., the team behind American Crime Story is already developing seasons centered around the government response to Hurricane Katrina and the murder of Gianni Versace.

The season centered around Versace's assassination will begin production first, according to FX president John Landgraf, but the current plan is for the Katrina installment to air before Versace's. Both seasons are expected to debut in 2018, with a premiere date for the Lewinsky iteration yet to be decided.
