While nitpicking is a central part of fandom, @movie_goofs is here to get it all wrong — and to annoy the hell out of movie buffs everywhere while they're at it.

The popular parody account calls out all your favourite movies by pointing out mistakes in joke tweets that intentionally "misunderstand movies and moviemaking."

The mastermind behind the account, Sean, a programmer in the video game industry, told Mashable the tweets aim to "accurately describe the movie while misunderstanding the intent." As you can probably tell, these so-called plot holes, continuity mistakes, and errors are all completely made up.

These "goofs" — which vary from frustratingly idiotic to relatively plausible — often manage to rattle movie fans, often causing some serious fan-splaining:

Some of the tweets have gone pretty viral.

Sean's own estimate is that half of his tweets are taken by fans at face value, though not the more ludicrous ones that are "really obviously jokes." Sean said this tweet about The Muppets Take Manhattan is an example of a goof that leaves no room for doubt as to whether or not @movie_goofs is a parody account:

Despite causing some frustration among movie fans who don't understand the account, Sean is only doing it for the laughs.

"I'd be happier if everybody got the joke; but, unfortunately, people thinking I'm actually that thickheaded is just a natural consequence of me pretending to be," he said.

Sean even has it right there in the profile bio: "Joking not trolling."
