'Mr. Robot' Comic-Con panel raises more questions than answers, just as they like it

"Behind us are people that really took a chance on a show that could be polarizing and gave us the free reign to really say something," Rami Malek shared.

The answer to the first question of a Q&A during Mr. Robot's highly anticipated Comic-Con panel Thursday evening summed up the entire event. Asking the pressing question of Summer 2016, a fan wondered who among the cast plays Pokémon Go.

After audience laughter and cheers, Carly Chaikin replied, "From a Mr. Robot perspective, do you guys know what kind of access you’re handing over when you play that game?"

It was a lighthearted remark with a serious undertone, and that set the tone for the whole panel.

While there were unfortunately precious few details given out about the rest of the forthcoming season (although Rami Malek did note that there is a "mesmerizing" hack coming that was filmed as one long take), cast members Malek, Christian Slater, Portia Doubleday, Chaikin and new Season 2 addition Grace Gummer all shared their opinions on why Mr. Robot has become a breakout -- and Emmy-nominated -- hit for USA Network.

"What we started out with was how can we really affect the world we live [in]?" Malek said while discussing character motivation and the themes of the show. “We’re controlled by money, slave to debt. What’s fascinating is you have these alienated, disenfranchised characters that everyone can relate to that are trying to change their world."

At the center of that is Malek's relationship with Mr. Robot himself; a delusion that is becoming all too real. While the cast was tight-lipped about teasing more of that relationship, it's clear that the two actors behind the roles have a great fondness for each other.

"I get to work with Christian, who’s just an incredible professional," Malek -- who took the title of group chatterbox during the panel -- shared. "I know when I do a scene with him that’s physical or aggressive … he knows how to make something look as rough and real as possible and we can both walk away safe. What I love about working with him [is] he surprises me moment to moment. He’s brilliant and just shocks me with what he’s going to do."

Speaking of shocks, it's likely no one thought that Angela would be working for Evil Corp this season -- and not just working there, but by all appearances thriving, give or take a little blood on her high heels. "I think Prada shoes really changed her life," Doubleday joked. "I’ve never been on a TV show and I’d say the coolest thing [about acting on television versus other mediums] is that you grow with your characters."

As to what comes next? After noting that the whole cast does in fact know their respective season-long arcs before they shoot the first episode of the season, Doubleday teased, "What ends up happening [with Angela], no one will be able to predict."

Sounds like a challenge, internet.
