UPDATE: July 11, 2016, 4:06 p.m. ET: It turns out that the video first premiered on Facebook on Sunday at 7:30 p.m. ET. However, that video was quickly removed (in keeping with the previous hacker style of the promotion) and soon showed up on Twitter as part of the show's pre-planned promotional rollout.

The much-anticipated Season 2 premiere of Mr. Robot made a surprise appearance on Sunday in the most unlikely place: Twitter.

With pretty much no warning at all, the video appeared on the show's official Twitter page Sunday evening. And this isn't a short preview or outtake, this is the entire first episode.

"We have released the #mrrobot season_2.0 Premiere early, but it won't be here long," reads the Twitter message accompanying the video. "Watch while you can, friends."

The original premiere date was promoted as July 13, but now that date has been reserved for the second part of Sunday's 44-minute premiere, which ends with the word "intermission."

As of this writing, the video is still available, but as the tweet suggests, it may not stay up for long, so fans should check it out as soon as possible. Limited testing shows that the video may not be available to viewers outside of the U.S.

Nevertheless, this appears to be the first time an entire episode of a popular television show has been premiered exclusively on Twitter. It's not on the show's Facebook, Instagram or YouTube feeds, only Twitter, as far as we know.

With this move, Twitter takes a huge step, via its SnappyTV product, toward solidifying its aspirations to move beyond short messaging and into the realm of mainstream commercial video events.
