Is this the best Google Doodle ever?

If you like trolling people, you'll probably think so. Russian singer Eduard Khil has been immortalized today, on what would have been his 83rd birthday, in a brand new Google Doodle.

The Soviet-era singer enjoyed a successful career in his native Russia for most of his life, but in 2009, he became something much greater: an important part of of internet culture history.

For relatively unknown reasons, a 1976 video of Khil surfaced on YouTube in 2009 and quickly became a global phenomenon because of his unique singing style where he repeated the phrase "trololol," a term used in internet parlance to describe laughter caused by trolling or pranking someone.

The original video, shown above, is often referred to as the "Russian Rickroll" because of its association with being used to trick people. The video has received more than 26 million views on YouTube.

Google's new homage to Khil is essentially an animation of the viral "Trololo" clip and depicts the Russian singer badly lip-synching in front of a pukey mustard backdrop.

Khil, who died in 2012 at the age of 77, was made aware of his internet fame before he passed away. According to the Telegraph, Khil said he was "very pleased" to learn about the meme and that he "tried to make [the song] cheerful." Mission accomplished, Eduard Khil. You've now been immortalized as a Google Doodle.
