Nadine Hernandez, an LAPD detective investigating NBA star Derrick Rose's sexual assault case, was found injured by a gunshot wound on Tuesday in a Whittier home (pictured above).

Hernandez, 44, was taken to a hospital, where she died Tuesday afternoon. A gun was discovered at the scene.

Her death is being investigated as a suicide, police said Wednesday, and there are no signs of foul play.

Hernandez was frequently assigned to high-profile investigations like Rose's, which went to trial in disturbing, intense fashion last week.

“At this point there is no indication that her case work had any connection to her death,” the LAPD said in a statement, per the Los Angeles Times.

Rose and two friends are accused of raping a woman, who is suing them for $21.5 million. The accuser said she was too inebriated to participate, consent or object, and may have even been drugged at the time.

Last month, the accuser's attorney filed a request to have the woman's identity concealed during trial. The request included a letter from Hernandez, who said that offering anonymity to those who accuse others of rape is "an invaluable investigative aid" and "a great comfort to victims of crimes of such a sensitive nature."

According to LAPD, the "Rose investigation will continue unimpeded.”
