Revealing photos explore how our faces change when we undress

"What level of nonverbal facial expressions do we show without being conscious of them?"

Do our faces know something we don't?

That's what photographer Dylan Hamm wants to find out. For his new photo series, "Naked Faces," Hamm took two photos of each of his volunteer subjects -- one in which they're dressed and one in which they're nude.

"The purpose of this," he wrote, "was to demonstrate the differing facial expressions between clothed and not, to physically capture evidence of the impact that something as simple as being naked can have on subtle facial expressions."

The results are fascinating -- from slight blushes to smiles to the tiniest widening of the eyes, every subject had a different reaction.

For Hamm, the series raised more questions than it answered -- but he's okay with that.

"As an artist, this series isn't one that is culminated with the answering of the question asked," he wrote; "rather, it has become an investigation that is ongoing. It has raised questions about gender stereotypes, the subconscious, and the way we change imperceptibly to ourselves and perceptibly to others."
