Fair warning ahead. Today is National High Five Day, apparently, so you might be asked to participate in a high five.

Now, you might not want to do this, and that is okay. High fives are a little weird and a little germy. Plus, what if you have sweaty hands? Tricky.

Luckily, there are a few foolproof -- absolutely foolproof -- ways to politely excuse yourself from a high five. Give them a try and see if you retain any of your friendships.

1. Do a thumbs-up instead.

It's basically the same thing!

2. Just go to the wall and put your hand on that.

This is probably even more fun than a high five, because it's unexpected.

3. Sneeze directly into your palm.

Instead of going for a high five, they will walk far away from you!

4. Laugh heartily.

5. Just keep missing.

6. Pretend to receive a phone call.

An important phone call. From your mom.

7. Immediately begin to describe a good dream you had.

They will be so interested in your dream, they will forget about the high five entirely.

Or you could just do the high five. If so, good luck -- you are the bravest among us.
