The first look at Netflix's 'Pride and Prejudice' is finally here and omg
It is a truth universally acknowledged that any new Jane Austen adaptation is guaranteed to get our attention.
We finally have our first glimpse of Netflix's new adaptation of Jane Austen's beloved 1813 novel Pride and Prejudice, which is currently in production in the UK. The photo shows the full lineup of the cast of Bennet sisters and Mrs Bennet.
Olivia Colman is playing the matriarch of the Bennet clan, Mrs Bennet. "You have no compassion for my poor nerves!"
So, who's playing the Bennet sisterhood? Emma Corrin (Nosferatu, The Crown) stars as Lizzy Bennet, Freya Mavor (Industry) takes the role of Jane Bennet, Rhea Norwood (Heartstopper, Cabaret) will play Lydia Bennet, and Hopey Parish and Hollie Avery will make their screen debuts as Mary and Kitty Bennet.
Rufus Sewell (The Diplomat) will play the patriarch of the Bennet family, Mr Bennet. Jamie Demetriou (Stath Lets Flats, Barbie) will be "the dreaded cousin," the insufferable Mr Collins. Then there's the matter of our esteemed patroness Lady Catherine de Bourg, who'll be played by Fiona Shaw.
Daryl McCormack (Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery; Good Luck to You, Leo Grande) will be Mr Bingley.
Louis Partridge (House of Guinness, Disclaimer) will be the incorrigeable Mr Wickham, a character who's "blessed with such happy manners".
As for our handsome yet proud Mr Darcy? Well, he'll be played by Jack Lowden (Slow Horses, Benediction). Lowden has expressed his excitement for "breaking down barriers" by being a ginger Mr Darcy.
The six-part limited series is written by Dolly Alderton (Everything I Know About Love) and directed by Euros Lyn (Heartstopper), and Netflix says it will be "a faithful, classic adaptation of the novel."
"Once in a generation, a group of people get to retell this wonderful story and I feel very lucky that I get to be a part of it," said Alderton in a press release.
"Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice is the blueprint for romantic comedy – it has been a joy to delve back into its pages to find both familiar and fresh ways of bringing this beloved book to life."
The release date for this hotly anticipated series is yet to be announced.
